Where America's Day Begins

First sunset in Tumon Bay, wearing our "Put A Bird On It" t-shirts!

After packing up our lives into two pods, many tearful goodbyes, and 22 hours of travel, we made it to Guam. For those of you that don't know, we are in Guam because Jay accepted a utility coordination contract. We will be in Guam for at least a year.

Jay and I have been suffering from jet-leg, including constant nausea, fevers, and sinus issues. Adjusting to a 15 hour time difference has proven to be much more difficult then we anticipated. However, after A LOT of sleeping (Bernie naps) we are both feeling better.

So far Guam has been quit impressive, with it's beautiful beaches, warm weather, premier shopping, and friendly locals. We are staying in Tumon Bay. This is the touristy area but also the most walkable area on the island. Tumon is busy with Japanese fashionistas enjoying the shopping, restaurants, and beaches. Guam is a popular wedding destination for Japanese people and I have counted at least seven wedding chapels on the beach! The hotel we are staying in is on the beach and it is beautiful. We are very comfortable here!

Besides dealing with jet-leg we have been busy making living arrangements. After looking at about five condos this morning we thought we found our home. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be and we will start fresh tomorrow morning.

We have found the locals to be incredibly friendly and helpful. They consistently greet us with a smile and "Hafa Adai" (pronounced HALF A DAY) which means "Hello" in Chamorro.

Hotel elevator that faces the beach...we love it!

Shopping for everyday things is not nearly as bad as we anticipated. The prices are reasonable and so far we have found all the comforts of home. In the grocery store last night we even found one of Jay's favorite beers, a Colorado beer called "Fat Tire". He couldn't even get that at home!
